Aswin Punathambekar is an Associate Professor in the Department of  Communication Studies at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

He is the author of From Bombay to Bollywood: The Making of a Global Media Industry (NYU Press, 2013), co-editor of Global Bollywood (NYU Press, 2008), and co-editor of Television At Large in South Asia (forthcoming, 2013). His research and teaching revolve around globalization, media industries and production cultures, media convergence, media history, and public culture with a focus on South Asia and the South Asian diaspora. He also serves as Assistant Editor of Media, Culture and Society.
